Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercise

Release What Words Cannot Express

Body-based exercises to release stored tension and trauma, no talking required.

TRE

Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercise (TRE) is a body-based practice that helps release deep muscular tension caused by stress, anxiety, and trauma. Developed from neuroscience research, TRE activates a natural reflex mechanism of shaking or vibrating that releases tension from the body, calming down the nervous system.

Unlike talk therapy, TRE does not require participants to share their stories or revisit traumatic memories. It is a safe, effective stress-releasing mechanism that works directly with the body.

How it works?

TRE sessions are facilitated by trained practitioners and typically run over 1–3 days. Participants learn a series of simple exercises designed to:

  • Activate the body’s natural tremor mechanism
  • Release chronic tension held in the muscles
  • Calm the nervous system and reduce hyperarousal
  • Promote relaxation, better sleep, and emotional regulation

Benefits of TRE

  • Reduces symptoms of PTSD
  • Helps heal old injuries
  • Overcomes stress and anxiety
  • Improves flexibility and reduces physical discomfort
  • Supports better sleep
  • Calms the nervous system through deep relaxation

Who is this for?

  • Individuals suffering from stress, anxiety, trauma, or PTSD
  • Community health workers and frontline staff experiencing secondary trauma
  • Anyone seeking a non-verbal, body-based approach to stress relief
  • Organizations looking to support staff well-being

How to Participate

TRE can be delivered as standalone sessions or integrated into broader wellness programs for your staff or community members.

From time to time, I find it difficult to sleep. However, after practicing TRE for 3 days, I could sleep properly. So, I will be practicing this exercise at home as well.
